Natalie Warner
September 25th, 2021

In this Fiberside Chat, Natalie Warner will be joining us via zoom from London to share her approach to knitwear design – particularly surface pattern and tessellations. Tessellations refer to the geometric plan of the pattern as a whole and this leads to both texture and colour in knitwear patterns! Natalie will show us how she designs colourwork for knits through a live demonstration of creating tessellations using nothing but a pencil and squared paper.  If you’ve ever wanted to design your own stranded colourwork designs, Natalie’s process shows you one way in which you can do it! We’ll get sneak peeks at upcoming patterns and see the development work behind one of them, the Parquet cowl. This will be a fun Chat that opens our eyes to creating with tessellations!

Kim McBrien Evans
October 2nd, 2021

Kim McBrien Evans designs clothes she loves and wants to wear, and wants to ensure you feel the same. It takes a combination of creativity, observation, a lot of careful planning, and just a touch of chaos to get from yarn to finished garment and a pattern that suits as many people as possible. How do you design for bodies that aren’t yours? And as makers, how can we feel more confident about the garments we make for ourselves, making a handmade wardrobe that fits our bodies and suits our personal style?

Join Kim as she talks about all of this and shows how she uses personal fashion illustration templates from mybodymodel.com to “try on” sweaters before she makes them.
If you wish to play along, you can purchase a personal fashion illustration template based on your measurements at mybodymodel.com
