Mary Jane Mucklestone - Fair Isle Weekend
PRE-ORDER. THE BOOK WILL ARRIVE FROM FINLAND EARLY IN NOVEMBER.
From Laine Magazine comes Fair Isle Weekend, a book which will take you on an exciting trip to Fair Isle, a windswept island in Shetland, famous for its traditional colorwork knitting. Mary Jane Mucklestone has created a gorgeous collection of designs which she would take with her for a weekend trip to Shetland when a carry-on bag is all you bring - warm wool knit into colorful patterns. The Laine team's photography combined with Mary Jane's patterns guarantees a beautiful book.
Says Mary Jane: "So I invite you to join us, this small band of traveling friends, sharing a little glimpse of the isle from my outsider’s perspective. I offer you a small collection in my own style of Fair Isle knitting, which I hope honors the tradition, even though my work isn’t especially traditional."
Mary Jane Mucklestone is a knitwear designer, teacher and author who has specialized in Fair Isle knitting, also called stranded knitting. Her work has been featured in publications like Vogue Knitting, Interweave Knits and various books. Mary Jane has a varied background in art and textiles - earning a BFA in Printmaking from Pratt Institute, studying fashion at Parsons School of Design and Textiles, and Historic Costume at the University of Washington. With her friend Gudrun Jonston, they host popular once-in-a-lifetime trips to Shetland. Fair Isle Weekend is her fifth book. Find more about Mary Jane at MaryJaneMucklestone.com
