Da Crofter's Kep
The official 2021 Shetland Wool Week knitting pattern ‘Da Crofter’s Kep’ has been exclusively designed by their patron for two years running Wilma Malcolmson.
DA CROFTER’S KEP by Wilma Malcolmson
Tammy Fraser, Wilma's father, was a crofter who worked the land throughout his life. Although this involved long days, difficult times and many struggles, He loved what he did and had great pride he had in his achievements. So, just as ‘Katie’s Kep’ is a tribute to her mother and all the knitters like her, ‘Da Crofter’s Kep’ is Wilma's way of honoring the people who work the land in Shetland. For generations, and in all weathers, their commitment to their land and livestock has ensured that families are provided for and a special way of life has not been lost. Without them there would be no Shetland sheep, no wool and no yarn... imagine that!
We've used Rauma Finnullgarn for our hat kits and have chosen colors reflecting our interpretation of the original color schemes; these are not the exact colors or yarns from the original Shetland Wool Week Da Crofter Kep.
