Soothing Slow Sashiko!

Soothing slow stitching? Yes please! Bring a snack and relax with an afternoon of soothing slow stitching. Even if you’ve never threaded a needle before, you can do this. Liz has tips and tricks for making the back of your sampler every bit as beautiful as the front. No knots needed! You will even learn to use a thimble to save your fingers and make your hand sewing more efficient.

Beginners—no sewing or embroidery experience necessary. Children 10+ welcome with adult buddy.

Supplies Needed
• Sashiko or heavy darning needles
• Sashiko thread sufficient for sampler
• Pre-printed Sashiko sampler
• small sharp scissors
• pins for assembling sampler
• thimble—optional but recommended
• sturdy needle threader—optional

All supplies available at Yarn Bar with a 10% class discount.

Supplies:

  • Harlow Worsted pattern by Andrea Mowry (available on Ravelry)
  • 2 contrasting colors of worsted-weight yarn (we recommend something smooth, non-fuzzy — shop favorites include Malabrigo Rios, Kelbourne Germantown, Mountain Colors Montana, or Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok.
  • Size US 5/3.75 mm - 16”/40 cm circularSize
  • US 6/4 mm - 16”/40 cm circular
  • Size US 6/4 mm - DPNs (or a longer circular for Magic Loop) (Use the needle size you need to achieve gauge, go down one size for brim.)
  • Stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle for finishing

Skill level: Comfortable with knitting in the round and basic decreases. No prior brioche experience needed.
