Christmas Stocking: Knit the Basics

Thursdays, October 1, 8, 22 & 29 • 5-7pm

Make a classic Christmas stocking while learning techniques that will come in handy far beyond the holidays. Based on the Churchmouse Basic Christmas Stocking, this four-session class will cover knitting in the round, jogless stripes, an afterthought heel, and the Kitchener stitch.

Never knit a sock? This is a great first step! You’ll learn several of the same techniques used in sock knitting, but in a festive, approachable project you can enjoy for years to come.

We will learn: jogless stripes, afterthought heel, Kitchener stitch.

A great little project for learning sock-knitting skills without having to commit to an actual sock.

Homework: Purchase the pattern and read completely. Please arrive at the first class with the cuff completed AND approximately 2" of the stocking knitted so we can jump right into the techniques.

Supplies: Churchmouse Basic Christmas Stocking pattern, 2 or 3 colors worsted weight wool in colors of your choice, 1 16"-US7, another circular #7 (16' or 24") and 2 24" long circulars in a much smaller size like a #3 or #4 (raid your needle stash!) stitch markers & waste yarn. Samples are knit with 2 or 3 colors of worsted weight yarns, including Noro Kureyon gradient yarn.
