Alpaca Classic from Rowan was a new addition to their line for Fall 2018. We added it to our fall order when we were at Market in June and were delighted to receive it in shop for fall. It's construction is a cotton net filled with superfine alpaca fibers (how in the world do they do that anyway?!) - 57% alpaca and 43% cotton in a really light and soft yarn.
However, there wasn't much time for Sue or Linda to do anything (like a sweater) with it until January; Sue's daughter was home for break and jumped at the offer for a handknit Carbeth sweater from Mom. I showed her a few different yarn options and she was the most enthusiastic for Alpaca Classic held double - two shades of grey.
I started it straightaway but was sidetracked by a couple other projects....
(shoulder cozy for party, hubby's vest started FOUR YEARS ago, and March Hat)
Then got back to it in earnest when I realized I had a photo op deadline with the end of Carrie's spring break! (Disclaimer - I was a little crabby about knitting neutral greys during our very cold and very grey early March. I was craving COLOR!!!) But I was not at all crabby about knitting with Alpaca Classic. (And the Carbeth zooms along fairly quickly.)
We all love this. When held double, the yarn worked up great on size US11 for the good sized Carbeth gauge. The sweater is very lightweight, exceptionally soft and cozy, and a bit drapey with that Alpaca. Our friend Tish decided to start one for her daughter's birthday; she went with light grey and off white, which will be stunning.
We've got this yarn in 16 colors and would be thrilled to set you up with your own project, Carbeth or otherwise. We think you'll enjoy it as much as us! And thank you for reading along!!
