We're Expanding!

Thanks to you, our Yarn Bar is able to expand after 3.5 years of business! And we're expanding with a move to downtown Billings at 2909 2nd Avenue North, a little east of the intersection of 29th and 2nd, across from the former downtown Wendy's location (if you've been here a while - - otherwise, across from A&E Architects). Our new space will have an enclosed classroom, an office for Linda and Sue (to hide our paper clutter!), a wee kitchenette, basement storage & work space, AND lots of beautiful room for more fine yarns and merchandise for all of...

Processing Black Lives Matter

What a month the last week of May and first weeks of June have been. We profess this:  Black Lives Matter. As white women living in a very white state, running a yarn shop, we know that we need to go back to school to improve our understanding of centuries of bias, and this will take time on our part. We're ready for uncomfortable conversations with our families and friends. And we believe that immediate financial contributions to organizations who directly benefit black communities are one way to help as we start this process. We share our lists here. It's...

Dishcloth Refresh Rehash

"All handknit dishcloths go to heaven. They are all good." says Ann from Mason Dixon Knitting. But time, and people always spilling things on counters, take their toll on a dishcloth. All were a perfect handmade treat for an unknown knitter who appreciates the virtues...

Shoutout to Fellow Small and Local

Several weeks in to lockdown we are, and we've had a lot of time to dwell on what we miss about the pre-COVID era, the things that make our "shelter-in-place" place interesting. The place where you live is so much more that your actual house and the physical landscape nearby, it's also the people and what they do - all the collective neighbors that make a community a place to call home. We may be slightly biased, but we think a pretty strong argument can be made that interesting communities offer special little businesses like boutiques, unique shops, and a variety...

Working Hard to FOCUS

Since last blog post our world has seemed to flip upside down (in one short month!). FOR US ALL. Maybe I have found the balance between obsessively reading the New York Times & feeling paralyzed with "what-ifs" or working to figure out the new norm, since a blog is happening. One thing's for sure in the lives of Linda & Sue and our staff and that is all our families are safe in their respective homes - for this we are grateful. Some of the stress for us over the last couple of weeks involved: (a) trying to decide whether to...
